The 2018 Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) stop at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino was supposed to be a celebration as HPT was returning to the entertainment capital of the world after a long break. HPT Westgate turned out to be an embarrassment for tournament organizers, a disappointment for poker players and a scandal for the poker community.

The second flight of the Heartland Poker Tour $1,100 Main Event has concluded after another 12 hours of hard-fought poker. After the full 15 levels were played out on Friday, 2018 MSPT Indiana State Poker champ Tim Burden accumulated 417,000 chips, enough for the chip lead among the 26 Day 1b survivors.

Burden went on a late run in the last three levels of the night on the heels of flopping a full house. Burden managed to get paid on all three streets and surged to the top of the leaderboard in the final few hands. The Kentucky native brings a special vibe to the table and often the number of words coming out of his mouth goes hand-in-hand with the number of chips he's stacking.

Burden has over $215,000 in career earnings with the majority of his cashes coming on the HPT. He already has one HPT Main Event final table this year in St. Louis and will be looking to reach another one this weekend.

Some other big stacks moving on to Day 2 include Justin Webb (360,000), Hae Yim (343,000), and Angela Shade (314,000), who could barely keep her eyes open for the last few hands of the night. Shade was fortunate enough to spin up a stack from around 30,000 to over 300,000 after the last break of the night.

There was expected to be a larger turnout on Friday as the weekend approached and the day started out strong with 45 players taking their seat when the action got underway. That number continued to grow at a rapid pace as players filtered their way into the ballroom of the Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. By the time late registration drew to a close, there were a total of 172 entries, bringing the running total to 262 with one flight left to go.

The tournament directors couldn't be happier with the guarantee being reached and the largest flight still yet to come. By the time the players reach the money on Day 2, they could be playing for nearly a total prize pool of around $500,000.

A lot of the big names fell by the wayside throughout the day including Greg Raymer who took a seat on the sidelines before the first break for the second day in a row. Joining him was Jake Bazeley, Craig Casino, Brad Sailor, and the Pupillo brothers (Nick and James). They will have one final chance to find a bag for Day 2 when the final flight kicks off Saturday at Noon local time.
